Xalkiadakis Supermarkets is the largest family in Crete, with more than 1,900 proud members. Over the years, the Xalkiadakis family’s goal has been for the family business to operate as a family, embracing all its employees. The Xalkiadakis Academy is the educational arm of S/M Xalkiadakis, with 6 classrooms throughout Crete (Heraklion (2), Chania, Tympaki, Agios Nikolaos, Sitia). The Academy’s first pillar is the School of Management, which, in collaboration with academic institutions, offers management programs. It provides programs in Human Resources Management, Business Management, Crisis Management, Time Management, and Corporate Communication. Its second pillar is the School of Technical Knowledge and Practical Training, offering on-the-job training courses. It includes programs on computer use, foreign language learning, Crisis Management, and general on-the-job training for the specialties of our stores (Butcher Shop, Fish Market, Cheese/Deli, Cashier, etc.). The third pillar, the School of Self-Improvement and Social Responsibility, focuses on the personal development, self-improvement, and strengthening of social responsibility among our employees, through programs such as First Aid (in collaboration with the Red Cross), Parent School, Stress Management, Abuse Prevention, Equal Opportunities for All, and Road Safety. Several of the above programs, such as “Equal Opportunities for All” and the program against Abuse, which were developed as part of the third pillar of the Xalkiadakis Academy, promote values and soft skills (inclusivity, social sensitivity, and empathy) that are particularly important to our company and essential for our employees.
In the first half of 2025, a total of 3,954 hours of in-person and online training (seminars) were conducted, with more than 800 employees participating.
